Blank pages in a scanned PDF

Duplex scanning is the usual cause. The scanner captures both sides of every sheet, and every one-sided sheet leaves an empty page behind. A forty-page contract scanned that way can come out as eighty pages, half of them white.

Delete PDF Pages doesn’t guess which pages are blank

There is no automatic blank-page detector here, and that is on purpose. A “blank” scan is rarely pure white: it carries specks, a faint show-through from the other side, a stamp in the corner, sometimes a single handwritten initial. A detector that decides on its own can remove a page you needed. Here you decide, and you can see every page while you do.

Finding them fast

Blank pages are easy to spot in a grid. Switch the view to more pages per row (the grid icons in the toolbar) and the white thumbnails stand out from the printed ones at a glance. Tap each one to mark it. Marked pages dim and show a − badge, so you can scan the grid a second time and see what is going.

If something is unclear — is that page really empty, or just very light? — open it with the magnifier before you decide.

When the blanks follow a pattern

With duplex scanning of one-sided originals, the blanks are often every second page: 2, 4, 6 and so on. In that case open More and choose Mark even pages, then look through the grid and unmark any back that actually has something printed on it.

Check before trusting the pattern. One two-sided sheet in the middle of the stack shifts everything after it, and from that point the blanks are on the odd pages instead.

Before you save

Read the summary line — 38 pages to delete · 42 will remain — and compare it with what you expected. The pages that remain keep their order and their content; nothing is re-scanned and images are not re-encoded.

  1. Open the scanned PDF. It stays on your device.
  2. Use a denser view, tap the blank pages, or mark even/odd pages and correct the exceptions.
